Elements & Principles

Space/Depth
How we show things that are close or far away.
The tree is in the front and the river and mountains are in the back.
(Trail in the Black Hills)

Emphasis
The part of the artwork that stand out the most.
The statue front and center catches the eye and stands out in the photo
('Just LeDoux It' statue in Wyoming)

Texture
The way something feels when touched or its look and feel of the surface quality.
The layers in the rock look rough and add texture.
(Red Rock Amphitheater in Colorado)

Value
How light or dark the color is. Also shown by adding highlights and shadows.
The different colors and values of the sunset are shown in this picture.

Rhythm & Movement
Rhythm and movement make your eyes follow a path through the picture. Shows motion or makes the art feel alive.
The water and ripples show the movement even in the picture.
(Waterfall in Spearfish SD)
